The
Next Wave
is a book about new sources of value in a world where everything that
can be is 'digital', and where everything that is digital may also be
networked. The Next Wave examines where value is to be found and
how it will be created in the digital networked economy.
The book tries to understand what creative businesses need to do to succeed
in the digital world. It does this by looking at them from different perspectives:
from the user, to the industries, to their products and their economics,
on the one hand. On the other, it looks at the peculiar economics of the
digital world, to the sources of innovation, to why some entrepreneurs
succeed and others fail.
I got into this stuff because I launched the first interactive television
service in the UK for Videotron in 1993. I now work on media and new media
projects for a commercial consultancy, The Henley
Centre which helps companies understand how consumers are changing,
and how they respond to change.
When a print and electronic version of The Next Wave become available,
later this year, this site will be updated to tell you how to get hold
of these. And I am also intending to make available here some of my other
articles about the net and about interactive television.
